I AM CALLING FOR MY LOVER, A New Album bY Brandon Thomas De La Cruz
The six songs of I Am Calling For My Lover are shaped from impressions that Rainer Maria Rilke’s Duino Elegies made on the artist. Employing images ranging from Picasso’s acrobats to the profound authenticity of a woman in love, the songs of I Am Calling For My Lover depict how we encounter the world and then transform our experiences within.
The album's title is taken from the seventh elegy which reads, “Look, I was calling for my lover. But not just she/ would come…Out of their fragile graves girls/ would arise and gather…For how could I limit/ the call, once I called it?…”
I Am Calling For My Lover was recorded by the artist at his home in Portland, OR during the summer of 2016. It was mixed by Jon O’Brien and mastered by Brennan Edmondson. A vinyl pressing and accompanying shows will celebrate its release.
